Harvey Eugene Allen, 93, died Friday afternoon, November 5, 2021 in his Roanoke Rapids home following a period of declining health.
A native of Halifax County, he was born June 1,1928 to Robert “Bob” Allen and Kate Love Allen. He was the youngest of their 10 children. His parents, as well as all of his siblings, preceded him in death.
On January 22, 1949 in Emporia, Virginia he married Mary Kathleen Allen, who survives him.
Harvey was a founder and operator of Community Drive In, having opened May 5, 1954. After nearly 20 years running the restaurant, he retired. He loved the girls at Community, Teresa Etheridge, Patsy Johnson, Linda Gail, Amanda…so many over the years. Harvey also owned A&A Mobile Home Sales, selling and renting mobile homes for a number of years before retiring again. He enjoyed Reba McIntyre music, bluegrass music, and a good card game. The thing he enjoyed most was having his grandchildren and great-grandchildren around.
He attended Harvest Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a charter member of the Davie Volunteer Fire Department, giving the first $500 donation to start the building. Anyone that knew Harvey knew that he loved to ride. It didn’t matter where he was going, he wanted to ride. He rode countless miles on the roads just enjoying being out.
In addition to his wife Kathleen, he is survived by his daughter, Kathy Dail Allen; grandsons, Rusty Miles (Shannon), Darrell Miles (Paula), Gene Miles (Sandra), Robbie Miles (Heather); five great-grandchildren, Brooke (Matt), Branna (Kenneth), Eryne (Josh), Hayley (Kub), Savannah, Kaylyn, Madlyn; great-great grandchildren, Chloee, Annie, Andrew, Axl, Jordan,Tate, Brett, Hayden; a special cousin, Dorothy Waters; and special friends, Charles Miles, Sr. (Jonnie).
