William Debernia Alston

William Debernia Alston, 88, of Roanoke Rapids passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.  Mr. Alston was born on May 2, 1937, in Halifax County, the son of the late Mariam Best and Debernia Hooper Alston and was the widow of that late Etta Mae Alston.   He was also preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Margaret Alston.

Mr. Alston enjoyed farming and rebuilding tractors.  He was a member of the Antique Tractor Club and served our country as a member of the United States Army.

Surviving include his son William Benjamin Alston (Megan), his daughter Norma Lyle (Kevin), his brother James M. Alston, his sister Jean Witt, and his grandchildren Samuel Blake Alston, William Lyle, Brianna Nicole Harris (Ryan), Allysa Lyle, Sarah Cribb, and Cole Daugherty.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at New Hope Methodist Church with Pastor Sue Owens officiating.  Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Friday, August 8, 2025 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM, at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service.  Friends may sign the online register by visiting www.hockadayfs.com.
