Virginia Pepper Ellis

Virginia Pepper Ellis, 90, died Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.

Mrs. Ellis was born July 16, 1923 in Halifax County to the late Waverley S. and Carrie B. Pepper. She was an active member of First Christian Church since 1937. Mrs. Ellis was employed with J.P. Stevens Textile Mill for over 30 years and was also retired from Roscoe Griffins Shoe Store. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ellis is preceded in death by her son, Michael L. Ellis; and two brothers, Harold and Donald Pepper. Mrs. Ellis is survived by her grandsons, Coby Ellis; Jason Johnson and wife Kristi; her daughter-at-heart, LaRose Johnson and husband Jackie. Mrs. Ellis is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Miranda Ellis and Abby Johnson; and a special niece, Donnicia Pepper; and a nephew. Graveside services will be held, Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Cedarwood Cemetery with Rev. Randy Martin and Mr. Chris Wicker, officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 12:45 PM at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service, prior to the service.
