Venson Lee Tharrington

Venson Lee Tharrington, 86 of Roanoke Rapids died Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Durham VA Medical Center in Durham.

Mr. Tharrington was born March 7, 1926 in Nash County to the late Melvin Tharrington and Geneva Breedlove Tharrington. He was also preceded in death by his three sons: Melvin, Jimmy and Danny Tharrington; and his brothers and sisters.

Mr. Tharrington was a member of Weldon Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School Class. He worked for 27 years with Weldon Veneer Company, he served in the US Army in Germany during World War II, He was also a member of American Legion Shaw-May Post 38 and the Disabled American Veterans. He loved hunting, fishing and NASCAR.

Mr. Tharrington is survived by his wife: Lola Peedin Tharrington; four step sons: Scott Harris and wife Jennifer of Wake Forest, Dr. Alan Harris and his wife Wanda of Suffolk, VA, William D. Harris and his wife Deborah of Quinton, VA, and Paul Harris and wife Missi of Jupiter, Fl; Grandchildren: Don Tharrington and his wife Karen, Jennifer Capps, Dan Tharrington, Sheila Clifford, Amy Tharrington, Jamie Powell and her husband Michael; step grandchildren: Joanna Harris, Melanie Marino, Nathan and Brandon Harris, Will Harris, Lynsey and Aaron Harris, Kerri Harris and Ashley Harris; ten great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, September 3, 2012 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Keith Thomason officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 2, 2012 from 6:00 -8:00 P.M. at the funeral home Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.
