Velnor Rose Clary

Velnor Rose Clary, 92, departed her earthly journey to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 13, 2021.  She was born on October 16, 1928 in Franklin County, NC to Bruce Holden and Nevelle Pace Rose.

Velnor married Frank Clary on October 19, 1946. She was a homemaker and dedicated her life to taking care of her family.  She was an avid seamstress, making her clothes and her children’s clothes as well. She canned and froze many vegetables that her husband Frank grew. She was known for her cooking, especially her biscuits and preserves. One cannot adequately express her lifetime of delicious cooking. Velnor was a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Her husband and parents preceded her in death, as did her brothers, James Rose, Howard Rose, Bruce Rose, Homer Rose, Norman Rose; and sisters, Fannie Massey, Dorothy Harrell and Mary Andleton.

She is survived by her loving children, Frank Clary, Jr. and wife, Page, David Clary and wife, Betty, Kathy Ogburn and husband Gary, and Timothy Clary and wife, Robin, all of Roanoke Rapids; her grandchildren, Dale Clary, Tony Clary, April Williams, Amy Harden, Jonathan Ogburn, Brian Clary, Justin Ogburn, Chris Clary and Aaron Ogburn; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Monday from 12 noon until 1:45 pm at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service, and at other times at 528 Henry Street.  The celebration of life service will begin at 2:00 pm Monday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Roy Porter officiating.  Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Bayberry Retirement Inn, where Velnor lived her last 2 years.  She had many dear friends among the residents and staff that added enjoyment in her last years.  The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Pam Jones of Kindred at Home, who went above and beyond to help her be as comfortable as possible.
