Thelma Elizabeth Jernigan

Thelma Elizabeth Jernigan, 96, of Roanoke Rapids, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

She was originally from Mount Olive, retired from Belk Tyler and was a member of South Rosemary United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude Hines and Lou Ellen Turner Hines; her husband, Lester Paul Jernigan; and son-in-law, Maddry Wooten. She is survived by her son: Lester Paul Jernigan, Jr. of Enid, Oklahoma; daughters: Joyce Jernigan Davis and husband Tommy of Roanoke Rapids and Doris Jernigan Wooten of Rocky Mount; grandchildren: Lori Couch, Cindy Conrad, Tracy Gildhouse, Vicki Exum and husband Jimmie, Debbie Medlin and husband Lynn , Tammy Davis, Gwen Wooten, David Wooten and wife Mary Beth and Susan Wooten Hopper and husband Tom; great-grandchildren: Brian Dodson, Phillip Pugh, Andrew Wooten, Samantha Wooten, Ashley Doiel, Matthew Hopper, Taylor Hopper, Jamie Exum, Tommy Exum, Kristy McConnell, Lori Harrell, David Cook, Liz Story, Sarah Rolfe and Jody Rolfe and 16 great- great -grandchildren.A memorial service will be held at South Rosemary United Methodist Church on Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 2 pm with the Rev. Sandra Mull officiating.Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2009 from 1 2 pm at South Rosemary United Methodist Church.In lieu of flowers donations may be made to South Rosemary United Methodist Church.
