Thelma Rebecca "Becky" Sykes

Thelma Rebecca Becky Mills Sykes, 73, of Gaston, died Thursday, September 3, 2009 at Guardian Care of Roanoke Rapids.

She attended Elementary School in Gaston, N.C. and Kempsville High School in Virginia Beach. Mrs. Sykes received her Licensed Practical Nurse training at Lee Memorial Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. She received her RN training at Halifax Community College and was a Hospice Coordinator for Halifax County.

She is survived by her husband: Harry Lee Sykes of Gaston, N.C.; son: Tony L. Sykes and wife Sharon of Littleton, NC; grandchildren: Tony Lee T.L. Sykes II, Kelly Crandell and husband Charlie and Wendy France and husband Jody; great-grandchildren: Kayla Joe Salmon, Elisa Norwood, Will Crandell, Coby Crandell, Zachary Vaughan and Hunter France; brother: James Douglas Doug Mills and wife Jeannie of Roanoke Rapids; sister: Barbara Bobbie Jean Mills of Norfolk, Virginia; special nephews: David, Danny and Forrest Mills.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 7, 2009 at 2 pm at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service with Dr. Julian Mills and Rev. Calvin Malphass officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Sunday, September 6, 2009 from 7 pm 8:30 pm at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service and other times at 277 Wildwood Circle Littleton, NC 27850..
