Sylvia Jean Newsome, 73, died Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Waverly Health & Rehabilitation Center in Waverly, VA.

Mrs. Newsome was born, December 27, 1942, in Halifax County to the late Joseph Benjamin Faulkner and Ruth Williams Faulkner. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Surviving is her husband, Raymond L. Newsome of the home; son, Kenneth W. Newsome and wife, Vicky G., of Surry, VA; daughter, Deborah Robertson and husband, Roger, of Como, NC; brothers, Stanley Faulkner of Roanoke Rapids and Ralph Faulkner of Charleston, SC; sisters, Mary Carwile of Petersburg, VA, Phyllis Kromis of Warren, MI and Frances Jacobs of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren, Angela B. Smith, Brian Bennett, Savannah Newsome, Sheridan Newsome, Heather Johnson and Evan Newsome. Also surviving are her great grandchildren, Alex Vann, Trinity Smith and August Johnson.

The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service Thursday, March 17, 2015 from 6-8 pm. Rev. Arnold Cooper will conduct funeral services Friday, March 18, 2016, in the chapel at Hockaday beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.
