Susan King Barnes

Susan King Barnes, 79 of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina passed away peacefully at Signature Care Health &Rehabilitation surrounded by family on Saturday May 23, 2026. She was born on October 16, 1946, in Halifax County. Susan was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Phyllis King, brother Arthur Tommy King and son-in law Russell Nowell.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years Frank, sons Richard Newton (Stephine), Haywood Eugene Hollowell II, Steven Wayne Hollowell (Amy), Ken Barnes (Melissa), daughter Sharon Sue Nowell, Amy Rose (Sandy), sister Mary Elizabeth King, 16 grandchildren, 22 Great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and “Baby” her fur baby.

Susan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of Good Samaritan Baptist Church. She loved her family and enjoyed cooking, eating, talking and shopping. “Memaw” always would have to get something new to wear no matter how small or big the event that she was attending with family.

The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation. There will be a funeral service on Wednesday May 27, 2026, at 2:00pm in the Hockaday Chapel Dr. Dennis Gregory and Reverand Richard Newton presiding. There will be a private interment following the service.
