Stewart Havens Harrell

April 10, 1922 October 27, 2012

Stewart Harrell began his true life at 9:18 on Saturday evening. He leaves behind a faithful Christian wife, Mabel Butts Harrell and two biological children Joseph Stewart Harrell and Diantha Rhea Harrell Cavnar, a loyal and beloved daughter-in-law Mable Ann Johnston Harrell, and three endeared grandchildren George Wayne Harrell, Haven Rhea Cavnar and Seanna Eve Lynn Cavnar and his sister Mary Elizabeth Harrell Boyd of Williamston, NC. Stewart was preceded in death by four brothers.

Stewarts greatest legacy is his devotion to Christ Jesus. He served his country in the South Pacific during World War II. He embraced his fellow man both black and white during a time when that degree of love was not considered appropriate. He endured criticism for witnessing to any and everyone who would listen. Stewart administered to local prisoners, spent his lunch breaks teaching his co-workers their Sunday School Lessons.

Mr. Harrell, making only 73 cents per hour at the local paper mill, led the workers strike, organized the labor union and served as its president for several years. Stewart was instrumental in negotiating the raise in hourly workers at the mill.

Stewart Harrell was not amongst us to please his human authorities, he was here to serve Jesus Christ. In his honor, we, the family, extend to you an invitation to accept eternal paradise through salvation by believing on the Lord Jesus Christ. Should you wish to speak to someone about salvation, contact Rev. Ray McDonald at Quankie Baptist Church (252-537-4555).

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday at Quankie Baptist Church with Rev. Ray McDonald officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 1:30 P.M. prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials may be made to the Baptist Childrens home of your choice.
