Sonny Norris, Sr.

Walter Elbert “Sonny” Norris, 79, died Thursday morning, August 29, 2019 in his Gaston home.

Sonny was born in  Halifax County on July 1, 1940, the son of Elbert Latham and Dorothy Borrell Norris.  He got the name Sonny because he was the firstborn grandchild in the family and was considered everyone’s ray of sunshine.

Sonny was a retired construction superintendent from Rightmyer.  After he retired, he worked at the Wellness Center in Jackson.

He is survived by his wife, Margie W. Norris; son Walter E. “Wally” Norris, Jr. of Durham; daughter, Amy Norris Clark of Wilmington; grandsons, Samuel and Joseph Clark; a brother, Johnnie Ray Norris and his wife Lynne; as well as nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 – 7:30 pm Tuesday evening at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service.
