Solomon Julian Ott, 88, of 1208 Crew Street, Roanoke Rapids, died December 24, 2009, at Guardian Care of Roanoke Rapids.

Mr. Ott was a member of the Choctaw Tribe in Oklahoma, Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. He joined the Marines in 1940 and started as a Private First Class; then worked up to 2nd Lieutenant. He flew SBD Dauntless Dive Bombers. After service he settled in Detroit, Michigan and worked for the Federal Aviation Administration for 33 years. He then retired and moved to Spring Hill, Florida, where he lived for 25 years and was a member of Hernando Aero Modelers in Spring Hill, Florida.

He was born April 17, 1921, to the late Solomon J. Ott and Georgia Cox Ott. Also preceding him in death was his wife, Bozica Ott.

He is survived by his son, Dewey Ott and his wife, Cindy, of Roanoke Rapids, and a brother, Bill Ott, of Maryland; his grandchildren: B. J. Ott and wife, Eva, and Mikey Ott, his great-grandchild: Jillian Ott; nephew, Sam Sonnett, of New Jersey.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service on Wednesday December 30, 2009, at 6:00 P.M. conducted by the Rev. Norwood Starling. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made the local Hospice of the donors choice.
