Samuel Thomas Dickens, 76, of Littleton, NC died November 9, 2018 at his home.
Sam was born in November of 1942 to Gordon and Florence Nethery Dickens of Weldon, NC. He graduated from Weldon High School in 1961 where he was a star basketball player. Sam served in the U.S. Air Force until he was honorably discharged in 1970. He retired after 30 years of service with C&P Telephone Company, which later became Verizon. Sam was a member of the Royal White Hart #2 Masonic Lodge of Halifax and was also a member of Halifax Fishing Club. He was a member of New Hope Methodist Church and attended Enterprise Baptist Church.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Norman Gordon Dickens of Portsmouth, VA. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Diane Conner Dickens; son, Matthew Thomas Dickens (Jewel) of Youngsville; daughter Jessica Dickens Hamill (Brent) of Littleton; granddaughter, Teagan Rae Hamill and grandson, Grayson Conner Hamill, both of Littleton; two sisters, Susan Dickens Clement of Enfield and Linda Dickens Wheeler of Newport News, VA.
The service for Mr. Dickens will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 13th at Hockaday Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Darren Lambert presiding. Masonic Rites will also be given. Burial, in Crestview Memorial Cemetery, will be private. The family will receive friends Tuesday prior to the service, from 10:00-10:45 a.m., at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service.
