Rufus Spear Dickens, 98, of 2382 Piney Grove Church Rd. Littleton died Thursday, May 2, 2013 at his home.
Mr. Dickens was born April 16, 1915 to the late William Bill Dickens and Ruth Smith Dickens. Mr. Dickens was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. He owned and operated Dickens Country Store for 39 years. Mr. Dickens worked with the Civil Conservation Service from 1935 to 1937 helping to build roads around Asheville. Mr. Dickens was a loving, gentle, kind man who would give you the shirt off his back. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and father-in-law. Mr. Dickens was a friend to everyone and everyone was his friend.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Dickens Dickens; his brothers Claude and Curtis Dickens. Mr. Dickens is survived by his sons, Harvey L. Monk Dickens and wife Edna and Waymon Bootsie Dickens and fianc Rose all of Littleton; his granddaughter Jill Pulley; great grand-children, Justin and Lindsey Pulley. His brother-in-law Sam Dickens and wife Ella of Alexandria, VA. Special nieces Jeanie, Connie, Pam, Sue, and Marsha, and a special nephew Tony Dickens. Also a special caregiver Dorothy Lynch.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 6, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Ebenezer United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Formo officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday, May 5, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service and all other times at the home of Harvey and Edna Dickens, 2992 Piney Grove Church Rd.
