Robert was born on March 22, 1937, in Halifax County to the late Robert Washington Joyner and Hattie Barnes Joyner. He was preceded in death by his brother, Al Joyner.
Robert was known by many as "Jack" but he was most famously known as "Neighbor". He called everyone "Neighbor" and never met a stranger. He was selfless, kind, honest and loyal, always volunteering to help wherever he could. He lived his life being a good neighbor to all.
He retired after 38 years from Champion International. He loved his work and the people he worked with at the paper mill. After retirement, he became part of the fitness center's "retiree regulars" along with C.B. Davis and Doug Seuis, meeting every morning for coffee and doughnuts, exercising their jaws more than anything.
Robert was devoted to his family. Though he never had children of his own, he took great pride in being "Uncle" to his nieces Sophia and Nicole, and his great nephew Robby. He was also "special Uncle Jack" to his niece by the heart, Claudia Smith Edmondson.
The family would like to Thank the staff of Gentiva Hospice for the wonderful care provided to them by Nurse Becky.
Robert is survived by his sister-in-law, Linda Joyner of Roanoke Rapids, his nieces Sophia Joyner Gums (Rick) of Roanoke Rapids and Nicole Joyner Elliott (Larry) of Morganton, NC; his great nephew Robby Gums of Goose Creek, SC; and cherished friend Sandy Showalter.
