Obituary: Rene Labrecque (1946 - 2025)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Rene Labrecque, age 78, who passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025.   He was born on December 26, 1946 in Berlin, New Hampshire to the late Rita (Robichaud) and Gerard Labrecque.  He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend and left behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and love.

He is predeceased by his parents Gerard and Rita Labrecque, father in law, Roger Levasseur, mother in law, Mary Levasseur, brother Norbert Labrecque, brother in law, David Marcotte, brother in law, Robert Levasseur and niece Lynn Marcotte.

He is survived by his loving wife Susan (Levasseur) of 57 years, siblings, Pauline Marcotte,  Lorraine Donovan, Gerard Labrecque, Paul Labrecque and his wife Ellen, sister in law Julie Labrecque, sister in law Ellen Holt and her husband David, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

As a father, Rene was a guiding light to his children Kelley Ruel and husband Brian, Randy Labrecque and wife Nora, and Karla Labrecque and husband Brian Shumake and nephew David Holt and wife Brenda. He instilled in them values of hard work, integrity, and the importance of family. His love for them was unwavering, and he took great pride in watching them grow into the individuals they are today.

Rene’s role as a grandfather and great-grandfather brought him immense joy. He adored his grandchildren: Jacob Meadows, Matthew Ruel, Joshua Meadows and wife Kaylynn, Joseph Meadows and wife Kori, Mary Beth Labrecque and fiancé Aaron Purser, Lindsay Jones and husband Brandon, Sierra Shumake, Chloe Shumake, and Noelle Shumake. He also cherished his great-grandchildren, Jameson Meadows and Jaxon Meadows. Each of them held a special place in his heart, and he treasured the moments spent with them.

Born in 1946, Rene was a dedicated logger for many years, earning the respect of his colleagues and community through his tireless work ethic and devotion to his craft. His hands, calloused from years of labor, spoke volumes about his commitment to providing for his family and living a life of purpose. Rene was loved by everyone and was affectionately known as "Mr. Labrecque" or "Bonhomme" to those who knew him best.

Rene was a cherished husband to Susan, with whom he shared 60 wonderful years filled with love, laughter, and mutual support. Together, they built a life full of memories and experiences that will forever be cherished.

Beyond his career and family, Rene found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved to fish, boat, camp, and travel, often spending time outdoors with family and friends. Whether by a quiet lake or on the open road, these moments brought him peace and happiness.

Rene’s legacy is one of dedication, loyalty, and a deep love for his family and community. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

A celebration of Rene’s Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 20, 2025, in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Pastor Jason Yeatts officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. prior to the service at the funeral home.
