Paula Rebecca Liles Riggan, a long-time resident of the Aurelian Springs area, died Wednesday the 24 th of July at home.
Born on May 10 th , 1937 in Norfolk, VA, to the late Willis Johnston Liles and Louise Griffin Liles, Paula attended Peace College and received a Degree in Education from Barton College.
Paula taught primary students in Halifax County for over 33 years. During that time, she touched the lives of approximately 1,000 students.
Paula loved caring for others. Her home was always open for the community. Few days went by without someone spending time in Paula’s home. She would go out of her way to make sure everyone was treated like family.
Paula was an active member of Tabor United Methodist Church. She was passionate about her involvement, serving in the choir, Sunday School, and various other functions. She was also a proud member of The DAR.
Paula is survived by her son, Thomas “Tommy” Willis Riggan, her daughter, Ashley Riggan Furman & husband Corey Delbert Furman, niece, Allison Smith Atkins, nephew, Charles “Tres” Durwood Smith III, grandsons, James Clement Furman II and John Liles Furman, as well as everyone who knew her as “G-Mama.”
Paula is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Willie Riggan, her sister & best friend Carolyn Neal Liles Smith & husband Charles Durwood Smith Jr, and her brother Willis Johnston Liles II.
Funeral Services will be held at Tabor United Methodist Church on Tuesday July 30 th at 11:00 AM with Pastor Cara Thompson, Pastor Chris Aydlett and Pastor Joe Gouverneur officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Family will receive friends following the Memorial Service at Tabor United Methodist Church.
