Olive Gray Pittman Edwards, 89, of Halifax died November 28, 2012 in Roanoke Rapids. She was born July 31, 1923 in the Pinkney Crossroads community near Goldsboro, to the late Needham Matthew Pittman and Laney Underwood Pittman. Her heritage and farm upbringing in Pinkney were constant loving memories for her.

She enjoyed playing piano by ear. If she could hear it she could play it, especially ragtime music and hymns. She sewed clothing and household dcor items for her family and later worked in apparel manufacturing. Her family will miss her great southern meals and desserts. In Halifax, she was known for her homemade sea foam candy.

She was a member of Halifax Baptist Church, WMU, American Legion Womens Auxillary and enjoyed XYZ organization of Rosemary Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughter and two sons: Betty E. Medlin (Joseph), Mooresville; Robert L. Edwards, Halifax; Bennie C. Edwards (Deborah), Gaston; grandchildren: Beverly Myrick, Williamsburg; Kimberly Medlin (Billy), Charlotte; Heather Angel (Rich), Jacksonville; Dana Melton (Doug) and Holly Edwards, Winterville; Joseph E. Medlin, Mooresville; sisters: Helen Tyson (Upton), Fayetteville; Louise Waddell (Raymond), Goldsboro; great granddaughter: Haley Angel, Jacksonville.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Lester Z. Edwards; daughter: Gloria E. Myrick; sisters: Sallie Morris, Fannie Nichols, Minnie Pearce, Audrey Hinnant; brother: Willard Pittman.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 2:30 P.M. at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 8:30 P.M. Friday, November 30, 2012 at the funeral home and other times at the home.
