Nishia "Pat" Dickens Rowland

Nishia Pat Dickens Rowland, 85, of 7369 Hunter Hill Road, Rocky Mount formerly of Halifax died Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Hunter Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rocky Mount.

Mrs. Rowland was born August 22, 1927 in Halifax County to the late A. Forest Dickens and Bessie Marie Carter Dickens. She was also preceded in death by her grandmother: Bertie Carter; husband: John Rowland, Jr.; sons: John Rowland, III, Daryl Rowland; sister: Birdie Johnson; Brothers: Richard Dickens, Samuel Dickens and Howard Dickens.

Mrs. Rowland was a cherished sister, mother, Granny and Great Granny. She was a member of Chockoyotte Baptist Church. She owned and operated Cinderellas Beauty Salon for 56 years and was a member of the Amvets and the DAV Auxiliary.

Mrs. Rowland is survived by her son: Mike Rowland of Roanoke Rapids, daughters: Alice Chichester of Wilson, Cindy Rowland and Kathy Freeman both of Roanoke Rapids; brother: Frazier Dickens of Maryland; sister: Rebecca Moore of Roanoke Rapids; grandchildren: Teresa L.C. Horton, Anne-Marie Wright, Maranda Norwood, Maraya Rowland, McKayla Rowland, Michael Scott and Marc Rowland; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Henry Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 8:30 P.M. Friday, November 16, 2012 at the funeral home and other times at 217 Taylor Street..
