Mattie Moore Taylor, 88, passed away at her home on Bolling Rd., Wednesday, May 29, 2013.

Mrs. Taylor was born March 30, 1925 in Halifax County to the late John Lewis Moore and Ruth Throckmorton Moore. She was a cloth inspector with JP Stevens and also worked at the Welcome Center on Interstate 95. In her spare time, she loved making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls and would sale them at Independent Station in Halifax. She was a faithful member at Calvary Baptist Church where she loved her church and church family. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Harold Taylor, four brothers and five sisters.

Surviving are three sons, Frederick Taylor and wife, Nancy, of Zebulolon, NC, Charles Taylor and wife, Wilma, of Roanoke Rapids, and Lindsey Taylor and wife, Latrelle, of Kenly, NC; two brothers, Harry Gene Moore and wife, Myrle, and Marion Leonard Moore and wife, Mary, both of Roanoke Rapids. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Erick Taylor of Raleigh and Amanda Taylor of Roanoke Rapids, and great-grandchild, Winter Taylor. The family would like to express sincere thanks to her hospice nurses, Lacey Mooney and Cherie Parnell, their love and compassion is truly appreciated. Also, to the ladies of the Train Gang, you are truly a special group of ladies.

The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service Friday, May 31, 2013 from 7-9 pm. Rev. Randy Martin will conduct funeral services at Calvary Baptist Church Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 11:00 am with interment to follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.
