Mattie Jean Gibson

Ms. Mattie Jean Gibson, 77, formerly of Weldon died February 1, 2018 at Highland House in Fayetteville.

She was born January 11, 1941 in Halifax County, the daughter of Harry Lee and Ethel Walters Gibson. Mattie Jean
loved playing sports, especially basketball and softball. She enjoyed coffee and cappuccino, and was an avid fan of both
the NC State Wolfpack and the Atlanta Braves. She was a retired seamstress from JP Stevens.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Lisa Gibson of Fayetteville; sisters, Mary Garoutte of Aurora, MO,
Lillian Merritt of Roanoke Rapids and Polly Gibson of Darlington; brothers, Bob Melton Gibson of Roanoke Rapids and
Clinton Howard Gibson of Hayes, VA; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Albert Lee, Frank, Rex Bell and Dottie Gibson; and sisters, Beanie Sadler and Mildred Allen.

The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service on Tuesday from 12 noon until 1:30 pm.

A graveside service will follow at 2 pm Tuesday in Crestview Memorial Park.
