Mary "Marie" Smith Bohanon

Mary “Marie” Smith McCreadie Bohanon, 77, of Roanoke Rapids, NC was called home to Heaven on Friday, October 25th, 2024, whilst surrounded by family.  Marie was born on May 24th, 1947, in Johnstone, Scotland.  She is preceded in death by her parents Milton & Annie McCreadie, brothers Michael McCreadie (Isobella), John “Ian” McCreadie (Isobel), Hamilton McCreadie, sister Nanus Dalglish, her favorite brother-in-law David Dalglish, nephews Michael McCreadie & Gerald Dalglish, great-grandson William Roundtree V, lifelong best pal Mari Carse, and special fur-babies Bugsy & Biscuit.

She is survived by her sons Michael Bohanon (Kim), Brian Bohanon (Robin), daughter Carol Dee Bohanon (Terry Lee), grandchildren Ashlyn, Bobbi, William IV, Seth, & Carson, great grandchildren A’lexus & River, her triplet brothers Morris McCreadie (Janice) of England & Wallace McCreadie (Bell) of Scotland, sister-in-law Jean McCreadie, special niece & goddaughter Anita Tait (David), nephew David Dalglish (Marion), and more dearly loved nieces and nephews than can be counted.

Marie’s life was truly a journey. She emigrated to the United States in 1967 with her best pal Mari Carse and remained a citizen of Scotland until her last breath. She enriched her family’s lives with her love & passion for all things Scotland and made certain that her family was never truly divided by the Atlantic Ocean.

For Marie’s family, she was genuinely THE BEST OF THE BEST.

The visitation will be on Tuesday, October 29th, 2024, from 6 - 8pm at Hockaday Funeral Home, after which time Marie will make her final journey back home to Scotland for a family memorial service.
