Mary Elizabeth Fisher McKinney, 89, died Wednesday, March 11, 2020 in her Roanoke Rapids home.

Mrs. McKinney was born in Hyde County on January 8, 1931 to Dan and Lizzie Ball Fisher, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by her husband, Bill McKinney; a son, Dwight McKinney; brothers, Lattie, Wilbur and Lloyd Fisher; and a sister, Gladys Lupton.

Mrs. McKinney was a member of Victory Baptist Church. She was a homemaker, and her favorite times were spent caring for her children and grandchildren.  She loved fishing, gardening, cooking and camping.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Community Hospice, especially Dixie Medlin, RN; as well as Dr. Kenneth Robert and staff, for the care and compassion extended to Mrs. McKinney and their family.

Survivors include her son, Chris McKinney (Beth); daughters, Trudi Taylor (Wade), Lanette Ritter (Jeffrey) and Libby McKinney; daughter-in-law, Brucie McKinney; sister, Audrey Simmons (Leslie); grandchildren, Penny Aycock (Neil), Julie Collier (Mike), CWO2 Jeffrey C. Ritter, Jr. (Heidi), Elizabeth Cowell, (Jerry), Sandra Kay Miletello, Brandi Paine (Michael), Diane Clay (Daniel), Ross McKinney; step-grandchildren, Jenny Hebert, Jacob Hebert; 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and caregivers, Kathy Little, Vickie Reid and Janet Joyner.

Serving as pallbearers are Zach Wilson, Cameron Wilson, Ross McKinney, Damian Collier, Wyatt Clay and Drake Miletello.  Honorary pallbearers are Neil Aycock, Mike Collier, Jerry Cowell, Michael Paine and Daniel Clay.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 – 3:15 pm Saturday at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation service, with the funeral service to follow at 3:30 pm in the funeral home chapel. Pastor Jeremy Kobernat will preside.  Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.
