Mary Lucas Hawkins

Mary Lucas Hawkins, 100, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2023, in Durham, NC.  Ms. Hawkins was born in Hopewell, VA, the daughter of the late Nellie Vaughan and Alexander Lucas.  She was also preceded in death by her husband Clifton Daniel Hawkins, her daughter Gloria Hawkins Birdsong and her brother George Lucas. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church.

Surviving include her daughter Barbara Hawkins Furlough (Robert) of Durham, NC, her grandchildren:  Lynne Price, Charles L Birdsong, Elizabeth Hendrix (Charles), Shannah Randall (Ken), Stacie Yarborough (David), R. Scott Furlough.  15 great grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren, and 2 neices.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday January 14 in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Jeremy Kobernat officiating.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 – 1:30 PM at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service.
