Mary Stasia Andrel

December 1, 1924 — July 29, 2024

Mary Stasia Andrel, née Witowski

Passed peacefully to her heavenly home on Monday, July 29th 2024 surrounded by the love of her family. Mary would have been 100 years old this December first. She looked forward to being joyously reunited with her parents Casimir and Anna as well as her 6 siblings and her husband Al, who preceded her in death. She would often dream of their reunion, and spoke longingly of being with her parents again.

Mary was born in Greenpoint, NY where she attended St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic school. Mary and Al retired to Littleton, (Lake Gaston) North Carolina, where they hosted the best barbecues by the lake for family and friends alike. Most who spent time with Mary experienced her cries of “Bingo” across the church hall as her luck always seemed to follow her. She rooted boisterously for her Redskins through good and bad seasons.

Most memorable of Mary, is how she loved her family and couldn’t get enough time with her four children, eleven grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. She was fondly referred to as “Babcia” by all of her offspring.

Following her husband's passing, Mary moved to Florida to enjoy time with her daughters. She would eventually move to the Brandon Oaks residence in Roanoke, Virginia where she continued to spread her contagious laughter to the staff and residents while teaching them the necessary Polish words while working with her.

Mary is survived by her four children, Carole Gotta (Ed), Diane Shiflett (William), Richard Andrela (Diana) and Ann Andrel; as well as a countless number of nieces, nephews, and others who loved her. She will be missed.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, August 12, 2024 at the Basilica of Saint Andrew, 631 N. Jefferson St., Roanoke, VA. A Graveside service will be held Friday, September 20, 2024 at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Littleton, NC.
