Marvin C Harris, Jr of Roanoke Rapids NC, passed away peacefully on June 23rd, 2025. Born on September 19, 1942 in Garysburg NC, he was a devoted husband for 57 years to his beloved Lou, and a loving father to his two sons; Dennis and Jeff.
Dad was a saved Christian and loved God. He was a member of the Good News Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, NC. His favorite Bible verse was John 3:16. He lived with the mantra to never hold grudges.
Dad was a retired independent insurance agent. He spent nearly four decades tending to MC Harris Insurance Agency, where he established a long-standing reputation for fairness and care. Despite his many responsibilities, he always made time for everyone.
Though Dad may not have liked being the center of attention, his service and devotion to family and friends should be honored. He was wildly appreciated for his great sense of humor and passion for people, but he was also a man of integrity, kindness, and generosity. He left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Dad's hobbies and interests helped define who he was. As a young man, he played tenor saxophone in band, and his love for music endured throughout his life. Many of our fondest memories are of nights filled with music and dancing. He also enjoyed a wide range of outdoor activities over the years, often spending his weekends either boating, fishing, hunting, hiking, traveling, golfing and other sports, or tending to his own property. His love for nature and the outdoors was something he shared with everyone, leaving an eternal mark on us all.
Dad was a devoted dog owner as well, and often preferred basset hounds. Their mischievous demeanor matched his nature perfectly. Whether it was George, Queeny, Stonewall, Bocephus, Dixie Lee, or Dixie Lou; they were all the apple of his eye.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Lucille “Lou” Harris of Roanoke Rapids. He is also survived by two children; Dennis Harris (and wife Wendy) of Wilson NC and Jeff Harris (and wife Michelle) of Garner NC. He is survived by 5 grandchildren; Laura Maucervelli (and husband Victor), Leslay Sutter, Ryan Sutter (and wife Megan), Kaleigh Allen, and Hunter Harris, and 4 great-grandchildren; Rowan, Violet, Jacob, and Addie. He is also survived by loyal cousins (like brothers and sisters) Linda Turner, Alice Hathcock, and Johnny Harris, sister-in-law Diana Creel, special friends (like family) Jeff & Donna Fodor, as well as scores of nieces and nephews, friends , and extended family members who will miss him dearly. He is preceded in death by his mother Corrine “Sweet” Creel of Weldon NC and father Marvin Caswell Harris Sr of Garysburg NC, two brothers, Henry “Sonny” Harris and his wife Marie of Weldon NC, Allen “Rudy” Creel of Havelock NC, and sister Catherine Hudson and husband Donald of Wilmington NC.
The family would also like to acknowledge all of our doctors, nurses, and home hospice representatives for their loving care. God bless you!
Dad will be memorialized at a grave dedication ceremony for the immediate family at a later date, but a receiving day for family and friends will be announced in the near future.
We find comfort in knowing that Dad's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will all cherish forever.
