Marvin Gilbert Barlowe

Marvin Gilbert Barlowe, 92, of Roanoke Rapids, passed Thursday, November 2, 2023, at his home.

Mr. Barlowe was born on August 4, 1931, in Roanoke Rapids to Jay H. and Lucy Writtenberry Barlow.  He served in the United State Marine Corps as a Corporal in the 197th Platoon, Second Battalion in the Korean War.  Mr. Barlowe worked for over 50 years as an LP gas mechanic as well as in the management of local LP gas distributorships.  He was a member of Victory Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Barlowe was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 60 years, Norma Wall Barlowe as well as his sisters, Lora B. Moore, Alta Fay B. Gibson, Catherine B. Vaughan, and brothers, Clarence L. Barlow and LeRoy G. Barlowe.

Those living to cherish his memory are his children: Curtis L. Barlowe and wife Susie of Lynchburg, Va, Gerald K. Barlowe and wife Joan of Clinton, NC, and Judy K. Barlowe of Roanoke Rapids; Sisters, Patricia B. Parrish of Gum Springs, Va and Shirley B. Adams of Jacksonville, Fla.  He was the proud grandfather of Patricia Jean Barlowe of Lynchburg, Va, Benjamin J. Barlowe and spouse Katelynn of Lynchburg, Va, Brittaney Dieppa of Charleston, SC, Ashley Lane of Clayton, NC, Jordan Lane and spouse Ashley of Clayton, NC and Eva Barlowe of Charlotte, NC, as well as 9 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends and family on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, from 10:00 to 11:00 am followed by a service at 11:00 am with the Rev. Randy Martin and Pastor Jeremy Kobernat officiating. The services will be held at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service Chapel in Roanoke Rapids, NC which is handling the arrangements, and at other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Victory Baptist Church of Roanoke Rapids Benevolence Fund.
