Martin Douglas Allen

Martin Douglas Allen, 83, of Halifax died Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at his residence. Martin was born December 17, 1929 in Halifax County to the late Willie and Edith Shaw Allen. Martin was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, a devout Christian who put others ahead of himself, and who was greatly loved by family and friends. Martin also served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War.

In addition to his parents Martin was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Smith Allen, his brothers and sisters, and his daughter Brenda Hope Mitchell.

He is survived by his daughter Vicky Allen Clay and husband Robert of Halifax; his son-in-law Mike Mitchell; his grandchildren Lindsey and Andrew Mitchell all of Aulander and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Cedarwood Cemetery with Rev. E. LeePenwell officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, March 8, 2013 from 7:00 8:30 PM at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service and all other times at the home.
