Martha Jane Flora Smith, 90, died Saturday, March 10, 2012.

Mrs. Smith was born March 22, 1921, to the late Lonnie Mark Flora and Lee Ora Jordan Flora. Preceding her in death were her husband of 50 years, Mack Ray Smith, her brothers, Edgar Flora and Luke Flora and one sister, Mattie Ruth Dot Keeter.She and her late husband were full time farmers and supporters of the Darlington community. She was an active member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church where she helped organize the Little Missionaries and taught Junior classes. A charter member of the Darlington Womans Club, she served as President for 20 years. She and her late husband were instrumental in the organization of the Darlington Fire Department. She helped organize both the Boy Scouts and 4-H in their community, serving as Scout Mother and 4-H Volunteer Leader. She was a charter member of the Democratic County Womans Club, a member of the Parent-Teachers Association program committee, and a member of the American Heart Association. The love of her life was serving family, friends, and community. Mrs. Smith is survived by her son, Charles Ray Smith of Maury, N. C.; her daughters, Carolyn Jane Smith of Franklinton, N. C., and Martha Ann S. Moran and husband, Jim, of Wendell, N. C.; her brothers: John Flora and wife, Ruth, of Rocky Mount, Floyd Flora and wife, Sylvia, of Spring Hope; and Lloyd Flora of Florida; her sister, Marie Pete Varnell, of Pinetops, and brother-in-law, Raymond Keeter of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Cameron Smith and wife, Amy, and Ashley Warner and husband, Walt; step grandchildren Dara Hodge and husband Anthony and Bo Moran and wife Kelly; great-grandchildren, Kasey, Erin, and Austin Smith; step great grandchildren Ingrid Malone and husband Robbie, Aaron West, Jordan Hodge, J.R. and Karolina Moran; her loving nieces, nephews and dear friends Lorine Thomas and Robin MacMillan.Graveside services will be held Thursday, March 15, 2012 at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery at 2 P.M.The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service which is handling the arrangements.In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Smiths request was for memorials to be made to the Darlington Womans Club, the Darlington Fire Department and Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
