Margaret Elizabeth Pittard Hawkins

Margaret Elizabeth Pittard Hawkins, 90, died Sunday, January 27, 2013 at her home on Hawkins Chapel Road.

Mrs. Hawkins was born in Halifax County, September 13, 1922 to the late Jesse Dudley Pittard and Grace Emma Green Pittard. She was a loving Christian mother, having a great love for God and family. She instilled those values and morals in all her family. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hawkins was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Wayne Hawkins; husband, James Alvah Slu Hawkins; three brothers, James Ambrose Pittard, Lorenzo Pittard and Leo Pittard; two sisters, Grace Pittard Inscoe and Madeline Pittard Crawley.

Surviving are her five daughters, Patricia Patsy Hawkins Shaw and husband, Edward, of Roanoke Rapids, Linda Ruth Hawkins Thompson and husband, Bobby, of Roanoke Rapids, Dorothy Hawkins Rightmyer and husband, John, of Littleton, Kathryn Kathy Hawkins Cates and husband, Sam, of Roanoke Rapids, Margaret Anne Hawkins Moseley and husband, Richard, of Roanoke Rapids; grandchildren, Heather Shaw Bryant and husband, Charles, of Roanoke Rapids, Adam Todd Shaw of Rocky Mount, Gail Shaw of Roanoke Rapids, Robert Thompson and wife, Melissa, of Roanoke Rapids, Stephanie Thompson of Roanoke Rapids, Alicia Thompson of Roanoke Rapids, Nathaniel Thompson of Roanoke Rapids, John Michael Rightmyer, Jr. and wife, Becky, of Roanoke Rapids, Nicholas Scott Rightmyer and wife, Kristie, of Roanoke Rapids, Benjamin Martin Rightmyer and wife, Kendall, of Roanoke Rapids, Jamie Lambert Davis and husband, Ronny, of New Jersey, Charles Wesley Lambert of Roanoke Rapids and their father Chuck Lambert,Benjamin Blake Moseley and wife Candace of Ridgeway, and Joshua Clayton Moseley and wife, Joy, of Macon. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Chad Everette Bryant of Speed, NC, Kristin Elizabeth Bryant of Roanoke Rapids, Kali Nicole Shaw of Roanoke Rapids, Lindsey Renee Shaw of Roanoke Rapids, Ava Elizabeth of Rocky Mount, Jacob Westley Thompson of Roanoke Rapids, Justin Glenn Thompson of Roanoke Rapids, Lisa Marie Rightmyer, Brittney Nicole Rightmyer, Staci Denise Rightmyer, Kendall Hathaway, Kennedy Hathaway, Alicia Claudia Rightmyer, Ashton Gage Rightmyer, Ava Grace Rightmyer, Kade Michael Rightmyer, all of Roanoke Rapids, Meagan Michelle Asselta, Benjamin Mason Moseley, Emily Brooke Moseley, all of Ridgeway, NC, and Clayton Dean Moseley of Macon. Three special nieces close to her heart Doris Hawkins, Barbara Speed, and Janice Hales, as well as a very dear friend Dorothy Green, whom she loved with all her heart.

The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service Wednesday, January 30, 2013 from 6:00-8:30 pm and all other times at the home.

Rev. Sid Collins and Pastor Maurice Wheat will conduct funeral services at Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 2:00 pm with interment to follow in the church cemetery,
