Louis Weathers Hawkins, 81, died Saturday, July 4, 2015, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Hawkins was born, February 12, 1934, in Halifax County, to the late Clarence Hawkins and Beatrice Hawkins. He was a veteran having served with the United States Army and was a lifelong member of Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church. He enjoyed being outside and working on tractors and lawn mowers and this gave way to him becoming known as the neighborhood repairman. Mr. Hawkins loved his family and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Surviving is the love of his life, his wife of 57 years, Julia Pittard Hawkins of the home; daughters, Joy Harvell and husband, Robert, of Weldon, Linda Hawkins of the home, and Susan Wells and husband, David, of Littleton; sister, Louise Powell of Roanoke Rapids; grandson, Robbie Harvell and wife Sarah and great-granddaughter, Addison. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service Tuesday, July 7, 2015, from 7:00-8:30 pm and all other times at the home. Rev. Sid Collins will conduct funeral services at Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at 2:00 pm with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
