Leon “Lee” Wilbur Cahoon, Jr., 56, of Roanoke Rapids passed away Thursday, July 16, 2026, at ECU Medical Center in Greenville.

Lee was born October 18, 1969, in Halifax County to Leon “Lee” Wilbur Cahoon, Sr. and Paula Bedgood Cahoon.

Lee worked most of his life driving a "big truck" as the kids would say. He loved to have cookouts with family and friends, and enjoyed cooking on the grill for all. Lee had a love of all kinds of music, and musical instruments... many of which he could play. Lee also had a way with all types of animals, but his bull dogs throughout the years held a special place in his heart. His smile and laugh were contagious, and he will forever be missed, remembered, and loved.

Lee is survived by his parents, Leon “Lee” Wilbur Cahoon, Sr. and Paula Bedgood Cahoon; by his wife, Christy Matthews Cahoon; his children, Wil Cahoon and Leeanna Cahoon; his stepsons, James Matthews and his wife Katie, Dennis Kennedy and his wife Jessica, Ryan King and Josh King; seven grandchildren; his sisters, Michelle Rochelle and her husband Jason and Allyson Barner.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, July 23, 2026, in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Pastor Tony Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at the funeral home and other times at the home.
