Lennis Nelms Newsom

Lennis Nelms Newsom, 80, of 4340 Aurelian Springs Road, Halifax, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

She was a longtime member of Pierces Campground Methodist Church and later Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver S. Nelms and Annie Braswell Nelms; her husbands, Willis Hill, Sanford Cooke and John Newsom; and her brothers, Lewis Nelms, Sidney Nelms and Clifton Nelms.She is survived by her brother, Richard C. Nelms and his wife, Dorothy, of Enfield; a sister, Lucy N. Frazier of Roanoke Rapids; one stepson, three stepdaughters, stepgrandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 24, at Crestview Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Steve Formo officiated. Visitation was held for one hour prior to the service at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service in Roanoke Rapids, which handled the arrangements.
