Lattie Shearin Thomason, 97, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie.
She was a resident of Rich Square Health Care Center for seven years, before that she lived all her life on Hwy 158 in Roanoke Rapids, except for ten years in Gastonia, NC. Lattie was born October 23, 1919 in Halifax County to the late Frances Hannibal Shearin and Pocahontas Harrison Shearin.She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Benjamin Thomason, Jr.; her brothers, Jake, Talmon, Herman and Pat Shearin; her sisters, Edna, Francis, Louise, Betty and Cecil, her daughter-in-law, Rosalie Jones Thomason; her grandson, Robert E. Thomason II.
She attended Roanoke Rapids High School. Lattie was a wonderful homemaker for her family, she loved gardening, cooking and sewing.She was always involved in her childrens school activities and church bazaars.She was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church where her ancestors had given the land for the church in 1820.
Lattie is survived by her children, Ann T. Byrum and husband T. Cam Byrum III of Edenton, Lucia T. Cribbs and husband David of Valpariso, IN and Robert E. Thomason of Roanoke Rapids; her grandchildren, Julie Smith, Catherine Thomason, John David Cribbs, Haley Anne Cribbs and Taylor Jade Stevison; her sisters, Jonnie Clement of Mebane and Nancy Waters of Lake Gaston.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at New Hope United Methodist Church with Rev. Sue Owens officiating.Burial will follow in Old Cedarwood Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 5:00 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service.
The family would like to especially thank the staff at the Rich Square Health Care Facility who cared for Miss Lattie with love and compassion during her seven years of residence there. She loved the facility and those who cared for her.
