Larry Wayne Merritt

Larry Wayne Merritt, 72, died Monday, December 1, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.

Mr. Merritt was born October 17, 1942 in Halifax County to the late William Earl and Helen Leggett Merritt. Larry loved his family and he loved to make people laugh. He was the owner/operator of Merritts Nursery and Greenhouse for over 20 years. Larry loved the outdoors, fishing, and many good memories of hunts that he shared with his friends. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother Julius Earl Merritt. Larry is survived by his wife Rebecca Becky Merritt; his son Jody Merritt and wife Rebecca of Macon; his daughters Debbie Merritt and Jenny Bouchard both of Virginia Beach; his grandchildren Matt Jones; Rachel Hayes; Rebecca Merritt; Meghan Merritt; Joshua Merritt; David Liverman; Matthew Liverman; Mary Liverman; Hannah Bouchard, and Jacob Bouchard; his great-grandchildren Kamden Merritt and Avery Merritt. He is also survived by his brother Curtis Merritt and wife Beverly of Gumberry. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service with Rev. Norman Tippens officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 3, 2014 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home and all other times at the home.
