Junius Walter Crawley, 93 of 335 Hawkins Chapel Road died Thursday, December 13, 2012 at his home.
Mr. Crawley was born November 24, 1919 in Halifax County to the late Sebastian Cabot Crawley and Annie Peebles Harris Crawley. He was also preceded in death by his wife: Frances Louise Tharrington Crawley; Daughters: Linda Ann Crawley, Faye Marie Crawley and Julia Junie Louise Crawley.
Mr. Crawley was a very loving husband, father and grandfather and very passionate about his family. He was generous and compassionate to everyone he met and was always honest and trustworthy. He served in the US Army during WWII where he fought in the battle of Normandy, he was a former commander of the American Legion Shaw- May Post 38 and was honored in recent years as the oldest living member of American Legion Shaw - May Post 38. Mr Crawley was a member of Tabor United Methodist Church.
He is survived by two daughters: Deborah C. Barrow of Aurelian Springs and Patricia C. Powell and her husband Dave of Roanoke Rapids; three grandchildren: Meagan Elizabeth Barrow, John Walter Powell and Julya Marie Powell; and special caregivers Lisa Gupton, Ethelean Richardson, Shea Carpenter and Alice Perry.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, December 16, 2012 at Tabor United Methodist Church with Rev. Sid Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 8:00 P.M. Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service..
