Joyce Murphy Johnston

Joyce Maria Murphy Johnston, 79 of Roanoke Rapids, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025 in her home. Mrs. Johnston was born on October 21, 1945 in Richmond, VA, the daughter of the late Elizabeth and Jerry Bailey. She was also preceded in death by her son Donald Ray Murphy, her grandson Richard Andrew Leigh Mayton, IV., her sister Barbara Goins, her brother Tony Bailey, and her lifelong partner Robert Wade Johnston, Sr.

Surviving include her sons Robert Wade Johnston, Jr. (Lacey) and Steven Wayne Johnston (Crystal); her daughters Elizabeth Anne Murphy Mayton (Richard), Nellie Deann Meador (Chad), Tammy Rebecca Dial (Brent), and Robin Brown; her grandchildren: Eric Mayton, Elizabeth Anne Murphy, Dylan Wade Johnston, Jullian Thomas Johnston, Taylor Dickens, Damien Wright, Alex Wright, Chloe Meador, Gracen Meador, Eli Meador, Alea O’Neil, Victoria Johnston, Jonathan Johnston, Sadie Dial, Christian Dial, and Isabella Dial; and her great grandchildren: Andrew, Kaytlyn, Jayden, Noah, Aleeah, Trenton, Lakeland, Lincoln, Aubrey, Carson, and Khalani.

A Funeral Service will be held at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service with Rev. Chris Howerton officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 6:00 PM. Friends may sign the online register by visiting www.hockadayfs.com.
