Josephine Harris Conwell Moore

Josephine Harris Moore, 81 of Lakeview Park, Roanoke Rapids passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016 in Warrenton, NC.

She was born August 4, 1934 in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie Macon Harris, Sr. and Ida Moohn Harris. She was also preceded in death by her husbands: David Graham Conwell and Joseph Thomas Moore, Sr.; two sisters: Constance Bishop and Martha Bobbie Jean Daniel.

Josephine was a member of the Roanoke Rapids Church of God where she enjoyed singing in the choir. In 1975, she was the first woman at Halifax County Technical Institute to receive her high school equivalency certificate using veterans benefits. Before retirement, she worked for many years in the cutting department at New Carolina Industries in Weldon.

She was loved and is survived by two sons: David Wayne Conwell and Kelvin Michael Conwell; two sisters: Ida Powell and her husband Roy of Roanoke Rapids and Estelle Lillie Vaughan of Richmond, VA; one brother: Lonnie Macon Harris, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Valentines, VA; Debbie Daniel of Fulton, MD and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, March 20, 2016 in the chapel at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Tony Smith officiating. Entombment will follow at Crestview Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 19, 2016 from 5:00 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home..
