Josephine Ann Barnard passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026, at the age of 93. She was born on July 29, 1932, in Norfolk, Virginia.

Josephine spent much of her life in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where she became well known for her passion and dedication to the game of golf. Later in life, she entered the golf profession and became an LPGA teaching professional. She taught at Broad Bay Country Club and Red Wing Golf Course in Virginia Beach, where she inspired countless students with her knowledge, patience and enthusiasm for the game. Her accomplishments and contributions to the game were recognized in numerous newspaper articles over the years. She later moved to Florida, where she continued teaching golf for another ten years sharing her love of the sport with many more of her students.

Josephine will be remembered for her cheerful spirit, her loving heart and the genuine joy she found in teaching others. Her warmth, kindness and passion for golf touched the lives of family, friends and students alike.

She was preceded in death by her husband Earl Elwood Barnard. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Maggie Barnard Lowery and Joni Barnard Challenor, her grandchildren, Michael Brian Mundie and Justin Lee Smith and all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Friday, July 31, 2026, at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia where family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of her life and lasting legacy.
