John Millard Birdsong, a faithful servant of the Lord completed his earthly journey and stepped in the arms of Jesus on March 5th, 2025. Johnny was born, March 3rd, 1935, in Roanoke Rapids.
Johnny was one of five children born to the late John Millard Birdsong and Virginia Birdsong. He was reunited in Heaven with his siblings Charles Birdsong, Shirley Walker, Betty Lou Woodruff, his in laws Boyd Reid Stratton, Catherine Rosebud Stratton, brother-in-law Edward Stratton, nephew Marshal Craig Hamm.
Johnny bravely and honorably served in the United States Army. While stationed in Germany, he was reading a newspaper from his hometown and saw a picture of a girl and told his buddy,” I don’t know this girl, but I am going to marry her”. Upon arriving back home, he visited her employment to meet his girl. Shirley became the love of his life always affectionately calling her shug! Their blessed union continued for sixty-three years.
Johnny retired from JP Stevens Mill as a loom fixer. He was an avid fisherman and loved animals. He loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and eagerly witnessed and shared his vast knowledge of the Bible with everyone. He lived for Jesus and his family.
Johnny is lovingly remembered for his steadfast sharing of his faith, enduring kindness and love for his family. He was a man of great humility and compassion. Johnny was a faithful member of both Shiloh United Methodist Church and South Rosemary United Methodist Church.
Johnny is survived by his devoted and love of his life, Shirley Birdsong, his brother Bobby Birdsong, and his many beloved nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, March 7, 2025, at Cedarwood Cemetery with Pastor Randy Martin officiating.
