John Robert Shaw

May 5, 1955 — May 27, 2021

John Robert Shaw, “Johnny” of Roanoke Rapids passed away on Thursday May 27 th at his home.
He was born May 5, 1955 to the late Jimmy David Shaw and Mary Patrick Shaw.

Johnny will always be remembered for his extravagant, exaggerated, over the top stories. Many of which we will never know their truth. He never met a stranger and there was not a story that he could not one up!
Johnny had a personality that was bigger than he was and if you knew Johnny, well his personality was so big, if they told you to haul it away, you might have to make two trips. It could even beep when it backed up. He was a legend in his own mind and will be missed for his knack to be the center of attention and his love of storytelling.

He had a passion for cars, guitars, tractors, collecting anything & everything, and oh yeah, knowing everything. Did we mention he knew everything?
He will be missed by many and remembered by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Jimmy D. Shaw Jr. and  Larry P Shaw, and his sister Mary Debra Shaw.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Shaw; his favorite son, Allen David Shaw; his two daughters, Angelique Alvarez, and Julie Shaw Powell; his grandchildren, Trennis, Hannah, Dailen, Kameron, and Colby; And two great grandchildren. And his beloved dogs, especially Jake.  As well as many lifelong friends, special cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Arrangements are being handled by Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service. Online condolences may be sent to hockadayfs.com

A gathering of family and friends will be scheduled for a later date.
