John Daniel Rauhe, 70 of Roanoke Rapids passed away on March 25, 2025, at The Landings of Lake Gaston, Littleton, NC.
John was born on February 26, 1955, in Roanoke Rapids, NC to the late Daniel (Danny) Rauhe and Estelle (Bobbie) Rauhe. He was also preceded in death by his sister Cherri Rauhe Steadman and his brother, James (Fred) Rauhe.
John spent his childhood in Weldon, NC and graduated from Weldon High School in 1973. He spent his adult life in Roanoke Rapids, NC and was a member of East 10th Street Christian Church where he enjoyed regular attendance in Sunday Services and the Men’s Fellowship Group. John’s career was multifaceted, including many years of working for both the NC Department of Corrections and the VA Department of Corrections. He also worked for Sears and Lynch’s Office Supply. After retiring, he moved to Wilmington, NC for a few years, where he worked for two different concert venues.
John’s hobbies and interests included dressing as Santa Claus at Christmas time, spreading joy and happiness to many children including his own two children when they were little. He loved camping, going to the beach for vacation with his family, attending musical concerts (The Switch band was his favorite), and singing karaoke.
John is survived by his daughter Heather R. Miles and her husband Robbie of Roanoke Rapids, his son Christopher Rauhe and his wife Nika of Raleigh, his former wife Lynn Rauhe of Roanoke Rapids, his three grandchildren Kaylynn Miles, Madelyn Miles, Jayleigh Rauhe, his brother Scott Rauhe and his wife Janet of Gibsonville, NC and his sister Donna (Rauhe) Cook and her husband Don of Arizona.
The family would like to extend a huge thank you to Bailey with Gentiva Hospice and all the other nurses for their service in caring for John over the past few months and during the end. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to any hospice organization of their choosing.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 30, 2025 at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service with Revered Jaason Yeatts officiating. A Private Burial will be held at Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon, NC. The family will receive family and friends at the home of Heather Miles 1120 Jefferson Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC. Visitation will be held from 1:00 -2:00 PM prior to the service.
