John Davis "Jd" Powell Jr.

John Davis “JD” Powell Jr. 81 of Roanoke Rapids passed away peacefully on Monday May 20, 2024.  JD was born on May 31, 1942, in Halifax County. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Judith Powell, his brother Morton Lee Powell, and his uncle Buddy Powell.

JD is survived by his wife Shirley "Slim", sons Robert M Paynter Jr (Becky) and Bryan Keith Paynter, daughter Susan Norris-Paynter Kempf (Chris), his grandchildren, who were his shining stars: Tanner (Nathalie), Hannah (Cameron), Robert III, Parker, Chandler, John, Walker, Bryan, River, Reghan, David and Jada, his aunts Gertrude Clary (Carl), Theresa Powell (Buddy), nephew John Powell, niece Julya Powell (Ralph), his Brother Dave Nelson Powell, many cousins and last but not least, his precious Queen of the house, Miss Kitty.

JD served his country in the United States Air Force and was a member of Smith Methodist Church of Roanoke Rapids.

Celebration of Grandpa JD's life will be on Saturday June 15, 2024 starting at 2:00pm at Good News Baptist Church.
