John Nelson Allen, 71, of Roanoke Rapids passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2026, at his home.

Nelson was born May 26, 1955, in Halifax County to the late John David Allen and Erlene Gums Allen. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Phillip Allen and his sister, Bonita Allen.

Nelson is survived by his wife Cathy Allen of the home; his children, Tonya Carter and Lance Allen (Tina); his sisters, Becky Brake and Mona Daniels; his grandchildren, Katlyn Allen, Siera Carter, Dawson Parks and Caleb Allen; his great-grandchildren, Colby Thaxton, Kayden Thaxton, Bentley Walker, Paisley Walker and Liam Russel.

A celebration of Nelson’s life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked for memorials contributions to be made to Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service, 507 Highway 158, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.
