Joanne Delosh Gentile

Mrs. Joanne Delosh Gentile, 84, died January 25, 2022 at Vidant North Hospital.

Born August 20, 1937 in Yonkers, NY, Joanne was a daughter of Cyril and Helen Strelecki Delosh.  Her parents, and her husband Armando Gentile, preceded her in death.

She was a 1955 graduate of Commerce High School.  Joanne moved to Halifax County in 1985 from Somers, NY.  She worked as a substitute teacher in both the Roanoke Rapids and Halifax County Schools.  She also worked afternoons for several years at “A Place to Play”.  Joanne was an avid bingo player.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Coleen Gentile-Hyatt (James) of Roanoke Rapids; godson, Sean Cilento of NH; brother, Joe Americo of FL; sisters, Pauline Coumo and Linda Americo of NY, Rosanne Diamond and Hope Tinsley of FL; niece, Paula LaMonica (George); nephew, Anthony Coumo (Simone); a number of other nieces, nephews and extended family; her caregiver, Linda Watson; and her beloved cat Picasso.

The service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Joanne Gentile will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, February 1, 2022 from the graveside at Cedarwood Cemetery, with Pastor Jason Yeatts presiding.
