Jerry Allen Hayes

Jerry Allen Hayes, 75, died Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Hayes was born at home, in Thorpe #5, West Virginia, on January 26, 1939, to the late Allen Lee Hayes and Beatrice Helen Mitchem Hayes. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hayes is preceded in death by his niece, Sarah Ellen Hamilton.

Mr. Hayes retired form International Paper Mill after 39 years of service. He was married to the love of his life, Betty, for over fifty years. Known as Pop, he dedicated his life to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His beautiful smile and kind heart will be missed by all who knew him.

Surviving is his wife Betty Jo Stanley Hayes of the home; daughters, Denise Gay Patterson and husband, Donald; Tina Hayes Poythress and husband, John; and Missy Hayes McKeel; sister, Judith Helen Hayes Hamilton and husband, John; grandchildren, Kristopher Wayne Patterson, Michael Allen Patterson and wife, Caroline Lee Moncure-Patterson, Bradley Cole Poythress, Jessica Hayes McKeel, Jordan Marie Poythress and Emma Grace McKeel. Also surviving is his great-grandchildren, Brayden Allen Patterson and Andrew Michael Patterson.

The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service Tuesday, June 3, 2014 from 7-9 pm. Rev. Dale Morris will conduct a service celebrating Mr. Hayes life, Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at New Testament Christian Church at 4:00 pm. Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.
