James Roosevelt Poythress

James Roosevelt Poythress, 77, died at his residence Tuesday, August 16, 2016.

James was born in Mecklenburg County, VA, October 12, 1938, to the late Skelton L. and Alma Jones Poythress. He was the owner/operator of James Pest Control for 42 years. In his earlier years, James loved the outdoors, especially fishing. He dearly loved his family, friends and getting together to play music. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his two brothers, Robert and Louis Poythress.

Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Corene Rooker Poythress, of the home; two sons, Melvin Poythress and wife Tammy, of Gaston, John Poythress and wife Tina, of Roanoke Rapids; two sisters, Marion Conner of Gaston and Annetta Casper of Roanoke Rapids. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Brad and Jordan Poythress.

The family will receive friends Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 7-9 pm at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service.Rev. Mike Little and Nelson High will conduct the funeral service in the chapel at Hockaday Friday, August 19, 2016, at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.
