James Earl “Bud” Capps, 82 of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by family on Saturday June 7, 2025. James was born on October 2, 1942, in Pine Level, Johnston County North Carolina. He was preceded in death by first wife Norma Shearin Capps and his parents Kelly Capps and Mildred Perry.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth “Libby” Capps, his daughter Carol Capps Hahn (Rich) of Bracey Virginia, stepsons Raymond Wheeler Jr., Steven W. Wheeler and Christopher Wheeler, his sisters Ann Jones and Janie Susie Price (Jerry).
James was a loving husband and father; he served his country in the Army National Guard for over 20 years; he retired from the North Carolina Department of Correction as a correctional officer. “Bud” loved boating and fly fishing and later enjoyed tying bugs (making fly fishing lures). He also enjoyed eating breakfast at Hardee’s every morning. Bud had a great sense of humor, and he never complained. He was a man of faith, who led a simple life, and he will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday June 10, 2025, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Services. Graveside service on Wednesday June 11, 2025, at 2:00pm in Crestview Cemetery. Pastor Wayne Guynn presiding.
