Ja Irby, Jr.

James Allen “JA” Irby, Jr.,  84, died Monday, November 26, 2018 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

JA was born in Wake County on September 11, 1934 to JA Irby, Sr. and Alice Lee Wade Irby, both of whom preceded him in death.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Benji; an infant brother; and a brother, Doc Irby.

He retired after 43 years in the textiles industry.  JA loved fishing, singing and enjoyed being with people.  He was a member of Victory Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Parker Irby; daughter, Jeanne Ann Irby; two step-sons; a step-daughter; brothers, Benjamin Irby (Dot), John Quentin Irby (Sara); sisters, Patricia Henderson (Ben), Sandra Edmonds (Paul), Chris Harris; sister-in-law, Helen Irby; 10 step-grandchildren; 8 step-greatgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:30 pm Thursday at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service, with the funeral to be held at 2:00 pm in the Hockaday Chapel.  Pastors Greg Hand and Donny Faucett will preside.

Interment will follow in  Pleasant Hill Christian Church Cemetery in Gasburg.
