Ida Brown Mitchell, 93, of 1016 Washington Street, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, February 21, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
Ida was born on January 19, 1917, in Halifax County to the late Frank and Eva Harlow Brown and in addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Drew Richard Mitchell, her son, Erle Stanley Mitchell, her grandson, Jamie Ball, and a special daughter-in-law, Catherine Mitchell.
She will be lovingly remembered by eight children, John Mitchell and wife, Anna, of Windsor, Virginia, William Mitchell and wife, Diane, of Tuscon, Arizona; Faye Harrell of Luray, Virginia, Judy Adams and husband, Dick, of Roanoke Rapids, Barbara Shaw of Roanoke Rapids, Nancy Padgett and husband, Daryl, of Salisbury, N. C., Juanita DuRant and husband, Steve, of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Steve Mitchell of Roanoke Rapids; 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 24, conducted by Pastor Michael Jones. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. on Tuesday, February 23, and will meet at other times at the home at 1016 Washington Street.
